classes / rehearsals



  1. Come fully prepared to practice with all your necessary materials: skirts, shoes, handkerchief, etc.
  2. Practice time is solely for the purpose of “practicing and learning.” Any playing or other disruptive behavior will NOT be tolerated. A verbal warning will be given the first time.The dancer WILL be asked to leave the classroom if it continues.
  3. Please treat each other with respect through your words and actions
  4. Breaks are a “Privilege”, not always necessary in class. Breaks are given “if and only if” the class earns and needs it.
  5. We will not have discussions with dancers or parents during teaching time with the students. If anyone wishes to speak to the instructor, they may do so before or after the class.
  6. All your guests should wait in the designated area of the studio during the class.
  7. A general class roll will be kept of attendance, performances, participation in events, etc.
  8. Cell phones are not to be used until instructor has dismissed the class!!!
  9. No one should leave the dance floor during practice time without permission from the instructor.
  10. No video recording during practice/rehearsal.
  11. Please do not bring personal issues to class/rehearsal.


ATTENDANCE



  1. All students are expected to attend classes.
  2. All students are expected to arrive on time for their class / rehearsal to begin.
  3. If an emergency arises, students are expected to call the instructor and notify if not coming to class or running late. It is the dancer’s responsibility to call in, or parent where applicable.
  4. All students are expected to get any information not acquired from missed classes/rehearsals.
  5. All students are required to attend final class/rehearsal prior to a performance for final detail corrections, clean-up of choreographies, etc.


FEMALE DRESS CODE



  1. All girls MUST have their hair up in a bun or you will not practice (no bangs, no ponytails).
  2. All black attire is required for all practices. Wear comfortable clothing so you’re able to stretch and move freely (no jeans, denim or street clothes).
  3. Shoes, skirt and handkerchief will need to be brought to class regardless if we use them or not. A reboso and a fan are required for Junior and all Adult classes as well. If additional materials are needed you will be notified a practice before to bring it.
  4. Please use healthy personal hygiene.


MALE DRESS CODE



  1. All black attire is required for all practices. Wear comfortable clothing so you’re able to stretch and move freely (no jeans, denim or street clothes).
  2. Boots and a handkerchief will need to be brought to class regardless if we use them or not. If additional materials are needed you will be notified at the practice before to bring it.
  3. Please use healthy personal hygiene.


performances



All dancers MUST be present at the final class/rehearsal before a performance.



  1. NO family or guests in the dressing area.
  2. Dancers should refrain from eating heavily one hour before a performance. Please use your own personal discretion.
  3. NO food or drink (other than water) is allowed in the dressing area .


FEMALE DRESS CODE



  1. All Junior and Adult dancers MUST have their hair pulled back with a split, in a bun along with the base braid and hair net already up before you come on site to a performance. All Children and Infantil dancers MUST have their hair pulled back in a bun along with the base braid and hair net already up before you come on site to a performance.
  2. MAKE-UP NEEDS TO BE ON BEFORE YOU COME TO THE PERFORMANCE SITE.
  3. Eyelashes will be required at ALL Performances for Junior & Adult dancers
  4. No colored nail polish should be visible during a performance. Rule applies to toenails when dancing barefoot or with huaraches. (French or American tip is acceptable)
  5. Hair Pins, big and small, for stability of Headpieces.
  6. Safety Pins for last minute alterations.
  7. Earrings for every performance.
  8. Hair Spray or Gel to slick hair down for ALL performances.
  9. Skin colored body suit is required for all performances.
  10. Healthy Personal Hygiene (deodorant, etc.)
  11. All dancers are to wear Bloomers above the knee and a slip (fondo) where appropriate.
  12. Handkerchiefs (solid red and paisley red) need to be brought to every performance.
  13. White and black shoes are required for all dancers. Black Boots are required for Juniors and Adult dancers. White boots are required for Children 2 and Adult dancers. Miguelito Huaraches are required for Adult dancers
  14. Clean shoes for ALL PERFORMANCES!!!


MALE DRESS CODE



  1. Hair needs to be well groomed, combed with gel (hair spray) etc.
  2. If you have a beard or a moustache, please make sure it is nicely trimmed. If you shave, please shave before the performance to be presentable. No scruffiness please.
  3. Handkerchiefs (solid red, black and paisley red) need to be brought to every performance.
  4. Black boots are required for all dancers. White boots are required for Junior and Adults. Migulito huaraches are required for Adult dancers.
  5. Please use Healthy Personal Hygiene (deodorant, etc)
  6. Clean boots for ALL PERFORMANCES!!!


MAJOR / LARGE PERFORMANCES



  1. ALL DANCERS MUST PARTICIPATE.
  2. There are at least four major events everyone must be prepared to participate in. These events are our 2 annual shows, Cinco de Mayo and Diez y Seis de Septiembre.
  3. A 100% attendance commitment is expected the month before the show.
  4. All dancers must be present the last week before the show.
  5. All Dancers must attend and be on time to Dress Rehearsals for all major performances.


PUBLIC / PRIVATE PERFORMANCES



  1. Public performances - are performances that are open to the general public to enjoy. Example: festivals, carnivals, church settings, parks, conventions. Entrance will be provided for dancers. All parents and guests should expect to pay if the event does not or will not cover their entrances.
  2. Private Performances - ARE FOR THE DANCERS ONLY – NO EXCEPTIONS!! Example: weddings and quinceñeras. Please refrain from inviting people that are not with our organization. Family, boyfriends/girlfriends or whomever it may be will not be allowed to enter. Your rides must wait in designated areas. If there is a special request, that would need to be discussed BEFORE THE DATE of the performance with the instructor for approval.


wardrobe (vestuario)



MAINTENANCE / HANDLING



  1. It is EVERYONE’S RESPONSIBILITY to care for and prepare your wardrobe, including but not limited to cleaning and mending. DO NOT SEND ANY OUTFIT TO THE CLEANERS OR WASH WITHOUT APPROVAL OF HOW TO HANDLE!!! Although we appreciate the gesture of wanting to keep all wardrobe looking their best, we want to avoid cleaning methods that will destroy an outfit or prohibit its use.
  2. All wardrobe must be picked up in a garment bag the practice before a performance. Everything handed out should leave with you in a garment bag.
  3. Handle wardrobe with care, they are expensive and delicate.
    If you damage or lose an item you will pay for the repairs or replacement of wardrobe.
  4. NEVER eat or have food while dressed in or around any wardrobe.
  5. EVERYONE MUST STAY AFTER THE PERFORMANCE TO HELP PACK AWAY ALL WARDROBE THAT IS USED FOR THE PERFORMANCE. (USUALLY 15 – 30 MINUTES) Do not leave until all outfits are turned in.
  6. Wardrobe should NEVER go home with you after a performance unless by director's discretion.


USE



  1. Wardrobe is intended for the use of the group, not personal use. Alegre wardrobe should not be used for events outside the needs of the group.
  2. Any wardrobe needs for reasons other than those of the group should be addressed to the director.
  3. Certain wardrobes may be available to rent at the directors discretion.


fees / payments



REGISTRATION AND MONTHLY FEE



  1. All payments for tuition or other fees will be made through an online Payment Process.
  2. There is an annual Household registration fee of $50.
  3. Tuition is based on the class that you are in. See Fee Schedule.
  4. Tuition needs to be paid the 1st class of each semester (January & July).
  5. If not paid by the second class there is a $10 late fee.
  6. Non-payment by the 3rd class will result in no admittance to class until all tuition is paid.
  7. Any and all returned / rejected payments must be paid in cash within 2 weeks of the returned payment notice. A $20 returned payment fee will be added to the amount.
  8. No exceptions will be made without prior approval.


REFUNDS



There are no refunds.



Concerns & ethics



CONCERNS / PARENT MEETINGS



  1. Parents are welcome to attend any of the practice sessions providing that the parent DOES NOT INTERFERE with the teaching time of the students.
  2. Dancers should be the only people in the dance room.
  3. Parents needing to speak with the Instructor will need to arrange a time with the Instructor before or after the class.
  4. Parents may assist in any of the areas at any time:
  • Carpooling students to and from the performance
  • Corporate Sponsorships
  • Repairing Costumes/Accessories
  • Facility Maintenance
  • Participate in the Parent Advisory Group.
  • Any other area that a parent sees needs attending and has been approved by the director.


VOLUNTEER/SERVICE & DONATION REQUIREMENTS



100% participation in all group raffles, which includes selling/buying a specific number of raffle tickets, donating items or requesting donations.
All Households are required to complete 5 hours of service to the group per semester. For example: performances, markets, fairs and other events to sell items/concessions and market Alegre Ballet Folklorico.
All dancers and parents (for students under 18 years of age) are asked to provide donations for facility maintenance via Amazon wish list as well as to get or give donations for events (i.e. concessions, supplies, materials).


CODE OF ETHICS



  1. No member of Alegre Ballet Folklorico will invite dancers that are currently members of another folklorico group to our classes in an attempt to recruit for Alegre.
  2. No member of Alegre Ballet Folklorico will invite other current members of Alegre to an outside folklorico class in an attempt to recruit for other folklorico groups.
  3. Although we don’t own the history and culture of Mexico, as a show of respect to all Maestros & Maestras that have taught at Alegre, we ask that no one directly copy dances and/or choreography for purposes outside of the group.
