Ashley DeLeon

2001 - 2020

Ashley DeLeon was a dancer in Alegre for 6 years. She was born and raised in Oak Cliff and attended Winnetka Elementary, Greiner Middle School and graduated from Sunset High School. It was while attending Winnetka Elementary School that she started dancing folklorico with their program headed by Pedro. Her interest in folklore brought her to want to join Alegre and continue learning.

In May of 2020, Ashley was taken from us in a terrible car accident, along with her father and sister, leaving everyone devastated.

Ashley is remembered fondly by those of us who had the pleasure of dancing with her. One thing most remember is how ready and willing she was to help everyone at performances. Any time someone needed anything she was ready to help. Whether it be bobby pins, eyelash glue, safety pins, hairspray, she was the first to offer it.

In her memory we carry an Alegre duffle bag with her name on it to all performances. In the bag we have extra items for performances. It's our way of having her at all performances.

How can you help

The Ashley bag is available to all performers as long as the bag is at the presentation. With that in mind, we always need items to replenish the bag regularly.

Here is a list of items we try to keep in the Ashley bag:

Bobby Pins

Safety Pins

Hair Spray

Spray Deodorant

Cotton Swabs

Red Bandanas (Solid & Paisley)

Hair Nets

Nail Polish Remover

Band-Aids

Electrical Tape

Shoe Polish (Black & White)

and anything else you might have needed in the past.
