Alegre Ballet Folklórico

Alegre Ballet Folklórico's repetoire is plentiful allowing us to give a variety of dance styles from Mexico. Costuming is obtained for the highest visual and dramatic effect, but always to be appropriate and authentic to what it should represent. Although the traditional aspects of each dance is our focus, Alegre has created other dance pieces for artistic & entertainment purposes. These pieces blend theatrical, classical and modern movements with folkloric dance for a unique experience to the audience and dancer!

Classes

Alegre offers several classes to fit the needs of each person. All classes are grouped (but not limited) by age. The Alegre way has always been to make everyone feel accepted into our family. Several Maestros from Mexico and across the country have come to Alegre to give workshops, and always comment on the unity displayed in and out of the studio.

Saturdays

INFANTIL

(ages 5 and under)

Infantil is an introduction to rhythm, music and dance. Students identify songs and where it’s from. Basic steps, arm movements and posture are introduced. Performances are only when staging is appropriate. Parents are responsible for buying costuming. Fundraising is required by all in the group.

CHILDREN’S

(ages 6 – 9)

Children’s has additional rhythm, music and dance. Students identify songs, music and what state and region it comes from. There is more focus on basic steps, arm movement and stage presence. Performances are only when staging is appropriate. Parents are responsible for buying costuming. Fundraising is required by all in the group.

BEGINNING ADULTS

(ages 16 - ?)

Beginning Adults is an informative workout class for adults ready to start learning, or for those who hung up their shoes a while back. Basic steps and general information of the dances is given. For those Alegre Parents, learn some of the steps and information that your children are getting! This group performs for special occasions.

Tuesdays/Thursdays

YOUTH/YOUNG ADULT

(ages 10 – 16)

The Youth/Young Adult group is a challenging class for the dancer with some experience. Information on music, songs, costuming and history is given for a full understanding of what is being learned. Strong emphasis is given to technique and stage presence. Costuming is generally provided, with required fundraising from all in the group.

ADULTS (COMPANY)

The Adult group is a fast-paced setting for the seasoned and experienced dancer. Age is not an issue but the level of knowledge must be high. This group offers detailed information of “cuadros” performed and has Maestros come in to teach Master Classes. Performance expectations are at professional levels and come often. Costuming is generally provided with required fundraising from all in the group.
